OkeFarms is a revolutionary, up-and-coming rural agriculture community near Folkston, Georgia, that offers an opportunity for folks to realize farm life without the labor and responsibility involved with a proprietary operation. This living, breathing community gracefully intertwines 250 privately-owned residential cabins and community spaces throughout 750 acres of row crops, orchards, gardens, livestock and pasture.  

Our “Sustainability Laboratory,” where we test all our seeds, make our soil, monitor and grow plant material, introduce animals, and more, is fully complete and operational. Over the last five years we have been working to develop the perfect palette. Now, we are integrating our successes throughout the entire property at OkeFarms.

1.    Integration of animals into growing operations.

2.    Stratified, adjacent planting of multiple species.

3.    Minimal topsoil disturbance.

4.    Erosion and water management techniques, such as earthworks and appropriate irrigation.

5.    Ongoing soil improvement through cover crops and composting.

Position Description:

Livestock is an essential component of OkeFarms’ full spectrum agriculture operation, both for the enjoyment and well being of our homeowners and guests, as well as the health and vitality of our soil. Regenerative grazing is a principle-driven agricultural practice of building soil health by managing livestock on perennial and annual forages, and in a way that supports human and ecosystem health, farm profitability, and community and food system resilience. 

The Animal Husbandry Manager is primarily focused on all livestock operations, including (but not limited to) free range poultry, swine, and goats. A minimum of 2 to 4 years of demonstrated experience managing livestock operations is strongly preferred. Basic knowledge about horticulture and silviculture best practices is also necessary to complement our holistic approach to regenerative farming The duties and qualifications include:

  • The ability to identify issues, develop potential solutions and implement corrective action. within all aspects of livestock operations.

  • A good understanding of animal health and biosecurity procedures.

  • The basic knowledge of proper animal husbandry skills and breeds, including heritage breeds, as well as horticulture and orchard management.

  • The ability to work within the farm environment on a near constant basis.

  • Strong communication skills that allow the individual to work on a regular basis with contractors and their employees.
